Charlie (Liam Neeson) has been an undercover DEA agent for 18 years. His exploits are legendary, but his last assignment nearly killed him, literally. And now hes lost his nerve. His boss wants him to finish a deal that will bankrupt a major drug lord with a money laundering scheme. However, the deal means acting as go-between for the son of a Colombian drug lord and doing business with Fulvio (Oliver Platt), a trigger-happy killer working for the Mafia. His fear already has Charles in group therapy and his stomach in knots. Judy Tipp (Sandra Bullock), a urology nurse, thinks she can calm Charles bowels without medication. But can he stay calm between two gun happy groups? While the story has comic potential, the inconsistent style flops from serious to humor and back. Platt and Neeson play their parts well but the sum is less than the parts.

While a queasy stomach can be played for laughs, several scenes take the humor lower. Charlie is seen running for the bathroom dropping his pants, as well as sitting on the commode. Gastric sounds occur often and in their first meeting, Judy gives Charlie a medical enema. Other scenes in bathrooms feature urine streams and comments about a mans prostate. Violence often involves gun threats or shootings, some graphically shown. Although not shown, a sexual relationship between Charlie and Judy is implied by sexual references to a gardening project followed by sensual kissing. Another scene shows him in the bath and her in a bathrobe while a third has her watch from bed as he dresses. In a flashback, rear nudity is seen as female statues, portrayed by blue-painted women, run away from a shooting. Most disgusting, however, is the frequent obscenities and profanity used by the characters. When will Hollywood tire of its four-letter vocabulary? GUNSHY totally misses the target.
