Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as Alain Moreau, a French policeman who discovers he has a twin brother Mikhail, separated from the family at birth. When his brother is killed before they can meet, Alain takes Mikhail's place to find out more about him. Adopted by a Russian diplomat, Alain's twin was raised in New York's Russian sector, Little Odessa. Alain also learns of his brother's involvement with the Russian Mafia, and soon becomes the target himself when he's mistaken for Mikhail. Aiding Alain in his quest for the truth is his brother's lovely girlfriend, Alex (Natasha Henstridge). The non-stop action of car chases, shootouts and Van Damme's trademark martial arts style fights tie together the tense race for the information Mikhail left behind. Down to the explosive finish, this fast-paced film has something for every action fan, and it keeps the plot enthusiast entertained as well.

This action rollercoaster includes numerous violent deaths as people smash through car windows, get shot, stabbed and caught in explosive fires. Two prolonged fights occur between Alain and a Russian killer. During car chases, property destruction and pedestrians fleeing from danger fill the screen. One particularly gruesome scene involves a man hit by a train. When Alain is mistaken for his brother by Alex, she kisses him sensually, grabbing his buttocks. As they investigate his brother's life, there are brief scenes of breast nudity as she changes clothes. A brief but graphic sex scene with breast nudity completes their attraction for one another. Brief male rear nudity occurs as Alain visits a sauna club. One chase runs through a strip club where the dancers are scantily clad. Surprisingly, obscene and crude language is limited, with the Lord's name taken in vain twice. Frequent severe and graphic violence, sexual content, and several obscenities make this a MAXIMUM RISK for acceptable viewing.
