The film is unrated, but would undoubtedly earn a G-rating. Since its sinking in 1912 on the maiden voyage across the Atlantic, the unsinkable HMS Titanic has been a subject of legend and curiousity. The recent discovery of the ships wreckage on the ocean floor is the subject of this impressive production for the IMAX projection system. Viewers travel along as a Russian research ship, manned by an international crew and equipped with special exploratory submersibles, searches the frigid North Atlantic waters for the famous wreck. The underwater lights and camera illuminate the ocean floor as poignant reminders of the giant luxury liner and its passengers appear. Unused stacks of dishes, baggage, and a lost shoe provide eerie reminders of the lives lost in the disaster. The small submarines travel into the engine room where the huge rust-encrusted steam engines stand as a silent monument to the immense power driving the ship. Interspersed with the underwater scenes, memories and photographs are shared by Eva Hart, a survivor of the sinking, who was a 7-year-old passenger along with her parents. The viewers will agree with the divers; the time on the ocean floor passes quickly. With no objectionable elements, TITANICA is a fascinating voyage for the whole family. The giant images of the IMAX format should even fascinate youngsters for the 40 minute feature.
