Four men and four women explore thoughts on love, sex, and rape in this unusual character study. As one character says, you dont date in the 90s, you meet up, go out with some friends and, if you like each other, leave together. Rick (Sean Patrick Flannery), a young lawyer, recently met Jane (Amanda Peet), another lawyer, and they plan a social night. Rick and fellow lawyer Sean (Brad Rowe) meet up with Mike (Jerry OConnell), Ricks high school friend and pro-footballer at a bar. At a dance club, they join up with Jane and her friends. Sean dated Sarah (Tara Reid), but his shy nature loses to the more aggressive Mike. After lots of drinking and dancing, Mike leaves with Sarah. Sarah later accuses Mike of rape, which puts barriers to Rick and Janes relationship as he defends Mike and she advises Sarah. Many times, the characters share their thoughts with the camera and scenes show differing views. For Mike it was consentual sex, for Sarah it was rape. And for the young adult audience, its left unresolved. The dating crowd will have better things to do.

BODY SHOTS explicit sexual discussions and graphic acts should have earned it an NC-17 rating. Scenes of the alleged rape are shown from both Mike and Sarahs view, accompanied by breast and rear nudity. Brief male frontal nudity occurs in a gym shower and a rubber model of a phallus sits on a womans lap as she teaches a class on sexual variations. Promiscuous sex appears along with excessive alcohol drinking, the negative aspects of which are presented as Jane questions Sarah about drunken memory loss. Sadly, the characters also think they can separate sex acts from emotions such as love. One insightful comment says, Sex without love equals violence. Violence also takes the form of a brutal fist fight. Language is equally appalling with more than 90 obscenities and 22 regular profanities. BODY SHOTS offers lots of immorality and little hope.
