Little Indian, Big City MPAA Rating: PG Entertainment: +2 Content: -1 1/2

Starring French actors Thierry Lhermitte and Patrick Timsit, this story is about a contemporary international businessman, Steve, who has been separated from his wife and young son for a number of years. In fact, his wife, Patricia, and their young son have moved to the jungles of Venezuela where they both have taken up native ways. When Steve visits them to arrange a divorce, he is persuaded to take the boy back to Paris for the boy's enlightenment. Still dressed in his native Indian clothes, the boy roams about Paris and even climbs the Eiffel Tower. Meanwhile, Steve is trying to sell soy beans to a Russian investor as well as keep his fiancee happy. Also, before he knows it, his son falls in love and runs off with the young daughter of his partner. All this frantic activity is good for some laughs, but the film is much too simplistic and contrived to really be very funny. At the same time, it does have some beautiful jungle scenery and the action moves along at a rapid pace.

If you're expecting LITTLE INDIAN, BIG CITY to be a family friendly film, you'll definitely be disappointed. Apparently the French company which produced the film has a more unrestrained approach to family films. The romance between the two adolescent children becomes a little too suggestive as the young people hug and kiss each other and share a hammock to sleep in. It's also amazing that this PG film has so many crude and obscene words along with some pictures of nude women and a belly dancer. On the other hand, Steve tries to keep tabs on his son. He is particularly concerned when his son falls for his partner's daughter, and tries to keep them from going too far. Also, there appears a possibility that he will drop his ditzy New Age fiancee and return to his wife. With the major audience for this film being young people and families, the language and sexually suggestive elements are disturbingly out of place.
