Vic Deakins (John Travolta) and Riley Hale (Christian Slater) are close friends and crack military pilots. However, when the two are chosen to fly the top secret B-3 Stealth bomber on a test run, everything changes in an instant. With two nuclear warheads as their cargo, their mission become anything but routine. Deakins is Hale's mentor, but when he releases the unarmed warheads and becomes involved in a treacherous plot to put millions of lives at risk, the friendship is over. It becomes a no-holds-barred race to recover the Broken Arrow, the military term for accidents involving a nuclear weapon. It's non-stop "Die Hard" kind of action, complete with chase scenes in helicopters, trains, and military Humvees. Intermingled with the action is witty dialogue between Deakins, Hale, and Deakins' military partner, Kelly (Howie Long). The special effect explosions and stunts are incredible. BROKEN ARROW is an explosive, all-out chase to the last minute; a heart-pounding adventure ride.
Unfortunately, it also explodes with violence and rough language. Rarely a minute that goes by that someone or something isn't blown up, shot at, or both. In one scene, a man is viciously killed by the blades of a helicopter. In another scene, a man in a helicopter explosion is seen orbiting through the air. Like most action adventure films, the violence is held to guns being fired, helicopters being blown up and people being shot to death. However, seeing someone sliced by a helicopter blade is less than appealing. At times, BROKEN ARROW swings from moderate violence that seems almost hokey to some pretty severe scenes. There is also quite an array of crudities, obscenities and profanities spoken throughout the film. With the emphasis on action, there's no nudity, sex or even sexual references. As action films go, this one is pretty clean, but the language and violence is not acceptable.
