FILM SYNOPSIS:Ethan Hunt, former leader of IMF, a branch of the CIA, and his colleagues Benji (Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Rhames) regroup after their CIA boss (Baldwin) shuts them down. Their new mission is to destroy the Syndicate, a terrorist group, before they assassinate foreign leaders. Joining these renegade spies is mysterious, beautiful Ilsa (Ferguson) after she saves Ethan’s life.
PREVIEW REVIEW:Ethan Hunt is this teen generation’s James Bond. Tom Cruise proves himself a physical phenomenon as he personally performs all of his dangerous stunts. Action lovers get their money’s worth, as do those who appreciate amazing technology and beautiful settings. One of the most memorable sequences takes place in the Viennese Opera House. In the midst of a performance onstage, behind the scenes our heroes are confronting a group of assassins targeting the Austrian Chancellor seated in the audience. Drowning out the mayhem in the rafters and backstage the orchestra is booming out a beautiful aria. Softening the theme of violence is the frequent humorous dialog and antics. No matter what your opinion of Cruise’s personal life is, in all fairness, he is a star who delivers entertainment.
The PG-13 rating reflects intense, frequent danger. Some of the confrontations and attacks are up close and personal although there are no gory, bloody scenes. Hopefully young viewers will not try some of Cruise’s stunts at home, or ask for some of the weapons used in the spy world that no doubt will be copied in toy stores. Some danger that young minds might have a problem separating fantasy from reality. With all the action any foul language is probably indistinguishable for most. There is definitely sexual attraction and tension between Ethan and Rebecca, but they are way too busy staying alive to act on it. Clearly the studio struggled to keep Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation within the PG-13 guidelines, but that doesn’t mean it is appropriate for your family.
