Directed by Peyton Reed. Main Actors: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll.
FILM SYNOPSIS:So what do you get when you mix Dr. Hank Pym, a brilliant scientist (Douglas) who wants to save the world, with a greedy, equally smart villain (Stoll), a beautiful woman (Lilly) and a handsome thief (Rudd)? Yes, you guessed it - Ant-Man, the latest Marvel Comics sci-fi spectacular in both D and 3D. Dr. Pym needs protection of his tiny robotic ant machine before his former partner/now enemy Darren gains access to it. Through a network of petty criminals Dr. Pym discovers Scott Lang, an unemployed master thief and just out of prison. Once Scott dons the sophisticated Ant-Man armor it can become a monster one minute and an insect the next.
PREVIEW REVIEW: Diverse Michael Douglas never disappoints his fans, no matter how absurd the role he plays. Sci-fi special effects are mind boggling and will spark the imagination of those fans, especially young boys and young-at-heart adults. Marvel Comics has successfully continued its reputation of delivering entertainment for the 21st century crowd. Ant-Man may not be its best film, but eye-popping action and likable characters willing to risk their lives always sells tickets.
Ant-Man has a subplot about father-daughter relationships. Ex-con Scott missed much of his young daughter’s life while he was serving time. Now he sees a chance to reconnect with her. Dr. Pym’s daughter Evangeline’s infatuation with her father’s nemesis could destroy her father and everything he has worked so hard for. Those two relationships give the film some substance, probably for the benefit of parents in the audience.
