FILM SYNOPSIS: For many of us the excitement of the holidays always begins with fun-filled movies for the whole family. The Penguins of Madagascar certainly fills the bill for 2014 with its delightful story. When penguins Skipper, Kowalski and Rico (voiced by McGrath, Miller and Rico) rescue a penguin egg as it slides down an icy mountain, the fourth member of their “family” miraculously emerges to become Private (voiced by Christopher Knights) and a member of the rescue team. Oh, the places they do go! The four embark on an unforgettable journey that takes them all over the world as they are being stalked by the evil, hideous octopus Dr. Octavius Brine (voiced by Malkovich). Agent Classified (voiced by Cumberbatch) of The North Wind joins the penguins in their dangerous mission to overcome Dr. Brine, also known simply as Dave.

PREVIEW REVIEW: The clever dialogue will probably not resonate so much with youngsters who are mesmerized by the action and colorful screen in 3D, but teens and adults certainly laughed the loudest at the humor and subtle comical situations. They will find The Penguins of Madagascar as much fun as the kids do. This reviewer asked young friends Grayson and Parker, ages 6 and 9, if they would want to see it again. Not only did they respond “YES” in capital letters, their mother agreed she would enjoy it again as well. The young penguins risk their lives to save and protect each other. Although the villainous Dr. Octavius certainly personifies evil, when we learn the basis for his hate, we can only pity him. Will he reform? Guess we will have to wait and see.
