FILM SYNOPSIS: Frozen will warm even Scrooge’s heart. This Christmas family treat from Disney, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic The Snow Queen, is beautiful, funny and heartfelt. It is the story of two princesses who are inseparable until their parents die suddenly, leaving Elsa (voice of Idini Menzel) the new queen. Knowing she has a mysterious power that turns everything she touches into ice, she disappears without explanation. Her younger, vivacious and adoring sister, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) feels betrayed and abandoned. When spirited Anna sets out on a journey to find her sister, she finds so much more. A humble ice merchant Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff), and his constant companion Sven the reindeer and funny snowman Olaf (Josh Gad) join her in her search. Even the lonely “ice-o-lated” (pun intended) Elsa learns that “only true love can melt a frozen heart.”
PREVIEW REVIEW:Even though Frozen includes some danger as Anna climbs icy, steep mountains, she is never alone because of Olaf, Sven and Kristoff. The strong bond Anna and Elsa developed as children appears to be broken, but both overcome past hurts as they quickly mature. Olaf the snowman almost steals the show with his gentle humor and outbursts of song. Sven the reindeer represents loyalty, perseverance and kindness as he plods along with Kristoff and Anna.
Why is this Disney classic rated PG instead of G? Would a G rating turn away children over six years old because they have been so de-sensitized to violence?
A more microscopic analysis of Frozen might point out some damaging or inappropriate content, but I strongly feel this is a winner for all ages.
