FILM SYNOPSIS: Johnny English is a disgraced secret agent has been renewing himself at a Buddhist monastery, where we discover that he’s a bungler. Suddenly he’s called back into action. Her Majesty's Secret Service, now called Toshiba British Intelligence (their motto: “Spying for You),” must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. And for some reason, as did the French so often with Inspector Clouseau, the British authorities have put this good-hearted dolt in command of the operation. Oops!
PREVIEW REVIEW: Though I would hesitate to place Rowan Atkinson in the same category as Peter Sellers, as Mr. Sellers was undeniably a comic genius, still, Mr. A. adroitly follows in Mr. S’s comic shoes. This spy spoof has some laugh-out-loud moments, some stemming from Jerry Lewis-like buffoonish sight gags, and a couple of situations that could be honestly called witty. And although there are a few muted risqué lines, the film is clean, action-packed and suitable for most families.
DVD Alternative: A Shot in the Dark. Inspector Clouseau falls for a beautiful murder suspect in this hilarious followup to The Pink Panther. One of the best in the series starring Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom. Caution: A Shot in the Dark has a few adult situations that are not suitable for children, but I feel handled with enough discretion for adults.

Crude Language: Attempting to be suave to those of the opposite sex, Johnny English occasionally says something that’s slightly ribald – these remarks will most likely go over the heads of little ones; during one scene in a hotel restroom, we see a man at the urinal – usually not my type of humor, but the scene plays well and actually made me laugh – it’s not graphic; and there are several humorous moments mined from kick-to-the-groin visuals.
Obscene Language: Two or three minor expletives, but I caught no harsh or profane language.

Violence: Though comic bookish and often played for laughs, there are several violent moments that entail gun shooting, martial arts and things that go boom; death of bad guy. The violence is done more in the PG mode than most action/adventures of late.
Sex: A few bawdy sexual remarks; we see women provocatively dressed in one brief scene
