FILM SYNOPSIS: Jacob Jankowski is about to take his final exams in veterinary medicine at Cornell when his parents are killed in a car accident. It’s the depression, the family home is lost to him and he drops out and joins Benzini Brothers, a second-rate traveling circus trying to survive during these lean years. Because he has some qualifications as a vet, he is hired by the owner, a ruthless man with a violent temper and a beautiful wife. Guess what happens?
PREVIEW REVIEW: Bookended by the always pleasing Hal Holbrook as Jacob in his old age, the drama is well acted by all and splendidly directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine).

Violence: Though within the PG-13 range, there is some violence, including several beatings, the villain brutalizes his employees, animals and finally beats and nearly strangles his wife; we see dead bodies of two men thrown from a train. Blood: Some blood, both on an elephant mistreated by the circus owner and on the lead after he’s beaten by the villain’s henchmen.
Sex: The two leads fall in love and while attempting to stay loyal in marriage, the woman gives in to adultery; there is one sexual situation between the leads as they consummate their relationship – no nudity, nor does it become graphic; stripteases travel with the circus, one scene shows one of the women doing a burlesque strip for paying customers in a sideshow tent; we only see her naked back.
Nudity: Though there is no nudity, it is hinted at when a stripteaser performs.
