Main actors: Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary Steenburg, Sam Elliott. Written and directed by: Marc Lawrence.
FILM SYNOPSIS: Paul and Meryl Morgan (Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker), successful New Yorkers, are on the brink of divorce when they witness a killing late one night. Since the extremely dangerous killer poses a threat to the couple, they are placed in the federal witness protection program. Suddenly the sophisticated Morgans are living in Ray, Wyoming, under the care of Sheriff Clay Wheeler (Sam Elliott) and his wife, Emma (Mary Steenburgen). Predictably, the rustic west slowly grows on the snobbish Paul and Meryl, and their feelings for each other begin to soften.
The cotton-candy plot is silly and unbelievable. Both lead characters are way past the age to act like a young married couple. Paul and Meryl seem to have watched too many I Love Lucy reruns, imagining clueless Paul as Lucy. They are chased by a bear, learn to milk a cow and shoot a shotgun, They even become the target of a charging bull at a local rodeo. This slapstick comedy may appeal to teenagers and anyone who needs a break from the pressures of the holidays.
PREVIEW REVIEW: Except for a few exclamatory profanities and two s-words, there are no offensive elements, such as sex, drugs or graphic violence. The bear incident and charging bull are threats without any serious injuries. With very little substance, Did You Hear About the Morgans? probably won’t be the subject of much conversation.
