Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts make an appealing romantic pair in this fairy tale love story. An ordinary bookstore owner, William Thacker (Grant), lives in the London suburb of Notting Hill in an apartment he shares with a disgusting but hilarious slob named Spike (Rhys Ifans). Williams love life has been pretty dismal until gorgeous American film star Anna Scott walks into his shop one day. The two are immediately attracted to each other, but the path to true love is chock full of potholes. Along with the usual misunderstandings that all couples face, they must also contend with the intrusion of media busybodies and apparently well-meaning friends. While Anna tries to fit in with Williams close-knit group of friends, they have a hard time treating her as one of them. After all, her picture is plastered on billboards, buses and buildings all over London. Trying to keep their budding romance a secret requires some fast thinking and creative action by both Anna and William. Williams quirky friends add lots of laughter to this delightful love story. NOTTING HILL will have great date appeal.

Williams closest friends, a happily married couple, try to encourage their single friends to find true love. It is clear that bachelor William would prefer a life-mate to a flat-mate, and Anna knows her fame is no substitute for a family. William and Anna finally cave in to their feelings and spend a night together. The next morning they are shown in bed together and their conversation is suggestive. But it is Spikes crude remarks and behavior that are most offensive. A few times he parades around in his briefs, posing suggestively, wears a t-shirt with the f-word in bold letters, and walks in on Anna while she is submerged in a bathtub. Foul language includes 5 s-words, 1 f-word, and 8 other obscenities, plus 7 regular profanities. William suffers a period of depression when it looks like he has once again been jilted, and he and his friends get drunk together. Audiences will applaud at the end of this fun date movie, but it would be just as entertaining without these offensive elements.
