Jiminy Glick in La La Wood

MPAA Rating: R

Entertainment: +1

Content: -2 1/2

In this comedy produced by Martin Short, Jiminy Glick (Martin Short) is first introduced on the Martin Short Show as an entertainment critic for a television station in Butte, Montana. Glick, his wife Dixie (Jan Hooks) and his twin sons head to the Toronto International Film Festival. As an unknown, Glick finds it difficult to get an interview, but his dream of becoming famous is undaunted. After he gets an interview with the elusive megastar Ben DiCarlo (Corey Pearson), his career is catapulted. As the stars are clamoring to get an interview with him, success seems certain. But a murder-sex scandal threatens to end his career as quickly as it began when the waning actress Miranda Coolidge (Elizabeth Perkins) is found dead in Glicks bed, but he cannot remember what happened as a result of being drugged.

Martin Short is at his funniest while playing the fictitious Jiminy Glick. He is hysterical as the obnoxious entertainment critic who asks inappropriate questions that insult the interviewee. The actors being interviewed often seem genuinely unprepared for Glicks outrageous, sometimes insulting and almost always stupid questions. While still funny at times, Glick is not able to transfer the hilarious moments to the big screen where his humor often seems stilted. Much of the humor is immature, sexual innuendo. There are several references to God, but none is respectful. The film has virtually no redeeming value, and the bad language is nearly nonstop. This, along with the crude and sexual humor, make Jiminy Glick in La La Wood a good film to avoid.
