A Lot Like Love

MPAA Rating: PG-13

This romantic comedy follows the sporadic relationship of Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and Emily (Amanda Peet). After their initial meeting on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, Oliver and Emily come in and out of each others life over a seven-year period. Oliver is busy building a dot-com diaper business in San Francisco and has no time for a long-distance relationship. Emily is busy sowing her wild oats and, after a failed attempt at acting, begins a career as a photographer in L.A. After breaking up with a live-in girlfriend, Oliver and his partner land a huge account in New York that should bring in millions of dollars. But the diaper business turns out to be a bust, and Oliver finds himself broke, unemployed and living with his parents. His broken dreams bring him back to Emily only to discover that she is engaged.

It wont take viewers long to realize where this movie is headed. After eyeing each other in an airport terminal, at the films beginning, Oliver and Emily end up on the same airplane and then in the planes bathroom where they have a sexual encounter before ever exchanging a word. They later spend a day together in New York, and wild Emily takes Olivers camera and puts it under her skirt and snaps a picture. Their relationship is certainly a hazard for a teen audience that could be influenced by their promiscuity. Over the years, Oliver and Emily each has live-in relationships with others. At one point, the two take a road trip that leads to sex in a car at a state park. This movie, while claiming to be a comedy, is slow and predictable. Preview encourages you to miss this one, which would more aptly be titled A Lot Like Lust.
