Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

MPAA Rating: PG-13

Entertainment: +1 1/2

This sequel to the action comedy Miss Congeniality begins a few weeks after the last film ends. While working undercover to catch some bank robbers, FBI agent Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) nearly blows the sting operation when she is recognized by civilians who saw her on the televised beauty pageant. Realizing that her fame is making her field work nearly impossible, Gracie reluctantly accepts a job as public relations ambassador for the FBI. Her new partner and bodyguard, Sam Fuller (Regina King), is a tough, unpopular agent who has been moved around a lot in the bureau due to her inability to get along with other agents. When Gracies best friend (Heather Burns), who also happens to be Miss United States, is kidnapped in Las Vegas along with her emcee (William Shatner), Gracie cant resist getting involved again.

Sandra Bullock is still fun as the snorting, clumsy tomboy of an agent, but viewers are unlikely to enjoy this film as much as its predecessor. While it has some good action and humor, it drags in places. When Gracie departs on her ambassador tour, she has a small entourage including an effeminate makeup man (Diedrich Bader) who makes several mild sexual innuendos. On one occasion, Gracie shifts her fake breasts to the side so she can prepare for a fight. Later, she touches another womans breasts to confirm that they are fake, but they turn out to be real. The themes of the film are friendship, staying true to yourself, and getting along peacefully instead of fighting to solve differences. Miss Congeniality 2 gets low marks in entertainment as well as in morals due to mildly crude language, some action violence and frequent sexual humor.
