Be Cool

Be Cool is the sequel to Get Shorty, which hit the screens in 1995. The cool Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is transitioning into the music industry after a successful but tiring venture in movies. Edie Athens (Uma Thurman), a widowed music producer, teams with Chili to launch the career of talented Linda Moon (Christina Milian). Unfortunately for Moon, she is under contract with Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel) and managed by the bumbling Raji (Vince Vaughn). Playing it cool, Chili is able to steal Moon away but must fend off those who want to end his life: the Russian Mob and a team of gangsta rappers led by Sin LaSalle (Cedric the Entertainer). With Edies record company in debt after mismanagement by her deceased husband, she and Chili need a big break. Fortunately, he has just the right connections to make Moons career soar.

After an f-word is dropped in the first minute of the film, the profanity never stops. Three groups are trying to kill Chili Palmer for various reasons, and all of them let the bad language fly. This funny movie will get lots of laughs throughout, but Preview cannot give it an acceptable rating due to the language. Travolta is wonderful as Chili Palmer who always stays a step ahead of the people trying to kill him while he attempts to launch the Linda Moons career. Moons former manager, Raji, is a white guy who thinks he is black and is guarded by the gay Elliot Wilhelm (Dwayne The Rock Johnson). Besides the language, there is brief nudity and homosexual content. Several people are murdered along the way after being beaten with a baseball bat and shot at point-blank range. Once again, Hollywood has offered us a comedy with little for families to laugh about. Thats not cool.
