This action-adventure film is a remake of the 1965 film, which was based on the book by Elleston Trevor. Capt. Frank Towns (Dennis Quaid) and co-pilot AJ (Tyrese Gibson) pilot a C-119 cargo plane for an oil-company crew, led by a woman (Miranda Otto), whose job it is to shut down oilrigs in remote locations when they stop being productive. After finishing up a project, the crews plane flies directly into a terrifying sandstorm and crashes in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. In a short time, they realize that the likelihood of a rescue from this brutal terrain is remote. In order to escape their prison of sand, they must be creative. They determine that they may have all of the necessary parts from the wreckage to build another plane, but the challenge is to make it work before they run out of food and water or, worse yet, kill each other.
When people of diverse personalities and walks of life come together, there is an immediate clash. When these same people are in a life-and-death struggle, chaos ensues. The survivors finally recognize that they need to unite, cooperate and work together to have any hope of survival. The pressure of the situation brings out the best and worst in each of them. The statement is made in the film, A man needs love. If he cant have love, give him hope. If there is no hope, then give him something to do. The group ends up getting all three. The film was very similar to the original except for improved special effects, more intense action and violence, and a whole lot of bad language, which is why this one is considered unacceptable by Preview.
