This sequel to Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas marks the return of Mickey Mouse and friends in a film about discovering the true joys of Christmas. This DVD release includes five stories with Christmas morals. In "Belles on Ice, Minnie and Daisy allow a holiday ice-skating competition to threaten their friendship as each one tries to outdo the other. "Christmas: Impossible finds the mischievous Huey, Dewey and Louis on a misguided mission to pencil their names on Santas nice list, despite a year of naughty living. In "Christmas Maximus, Max learns to love his dad, Goofy, despite all of the times hes been embarrassed by him. Donalds Gift follows Donald as he gets past his seasonal stress and sings with real holiday spirit. And in "Mickeys Dog-Gone Christmas, Mickey and Pluto struggle to remember that loving relationships are more important than perfect Christmas trees or parties.
This is the first time for the veteran Disney characters to be animated in Pixar-esque 3-D. For parents, this will take some getting used to, but kids will hardly notice the difference. To its credit, this film is visually vibrant and includes some good moral messages about relationships, attitudes and actions. Unfortunately, the stories are not quite as strong as past Mickey films, and the morals are pedantic. The film therefore delivers quality entertainment for children but has less to offer parents. The films biggest flaw is one that Preview fully expected. It presents secular folklore as the true joys of Christmas and neglects to mention the coming of Christ into the world. Preview can recommend this film but suggests that parents supplement the films message with the Bibles message about CHRISTmas.
