As a big city cop who is bankrupt of common sense and has an uncanny ability to foul up, Detective Washburn (Jimmy Fallon) is not one of New Yorks finest. Haphazardly encountering a bank robbery, Washburn needs some wheels to pursue the suspects. He stumbles upon Belle (Queen Latifah), an aspiring NASCAR driver employed with a taxi company, who has souped-up her taxi with some rims and nitrous oxide. In this slapstick, remake of a French actioncomedy, they try to capture the elusive, supermodel bank robbers. Causing great damage on their several-day chase, Washburn gets fired and Belle loses her license, leading them to desperate measures. Against all odds and with nothing to lose, they aim to apprehend these wily females without the help of the police. The film is low on amusement for a mainstream comedy.
Washburn had great insecurities as a child that cultivated into a lack of confidence as a police officer. Belle helps him to see through the fog of the past, bringing about a renewed confidence. This is commendable and somewhat parallel this is a stretch to the Christians forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. But this is about the only commendable aspect of the film. Taxi is loaded with bad language, including 19 occurrences of profanity and 10 s-words. Some impersonations also border on racial insults. A womans (Ann-Margret) drunkenness is portrayed in a humorous way several times. There is no sex or strong nudity, but a sensually provocative scene between two women implies the acceptability and normalcy of lesbianism. Preview does not hail Taxi, and you wont miss a thing if you dont see it.
