In this romantic comedy, unlike other girls, 18-year-old Samantha Mackenzie (Katie Holmes) has led a rather sheltered life as the daughter of a politician. Living with Secret Servicemen at her side has been the norm her whole life. Now her father (Michael Keaton) is the president of the United States, and she is about to go to college and would like a little freedom. Trying to fit in and act normal is hard enough, but its made worse by having two uncool men in dark suits following you everywhere. In order to make her feel more like she is on her own, her father has a young Secret Serviceman (Marc Blucas) pose as a student in her dorm. Things work out for a while until the two fall for each other, and Samantha discovers his true identity. Furious at both her father and the young agent, Samantha is out for a little revenge.
Samantha for the most part is a good girl, but the pressures to fit in get her into some partying and drinking. She gets so drunk in one scene that she has to be carried home. The drinking is not glamorized or made to look like the right thing to do. She is reprimanded for her behavior, but it appears that her parents are upset primarily because of the political repercussions. Her parents appear to be loving parents and genuinely interested in their daughters welfare. At one point, Samanthas roommate will not let her in her room because she presumably has a boy with her. There is some kissing, but that is the extent of the sexual situations. The film is enjoyable although somewhat predictable. Sadly this film cannot receive Previews recommendation because of eight occurrences of bad language including an instance of strong profanity.
