In this sports comedy, baseball superstar Stan Ross (Bernie Mac) has one of the sweetest swings and also one of the worst attitudes in professional sports. After he accomplishes the rare 3,000 base hits, he immediately retires from the game to cash in on endorsements and enter the lucrative business world. By doing so, he leaves his team in a bind. To promote his success, he coins the nickname Mr. 3000 and seeks admission into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ten years later, as the baseball league is considering Stan for admittance into the Hall of Fame, they realize that a mistake has been made in tabulating Stans statistics. Mr. 3000 is actually Mr. 2997, so Stan decides to get himself back in shape and return to professional baseball to get the last three hits to earn his place in history.

Stan Ross is a self-absorbed, egotistical, stubborn motormouth seeking to define his entire career by setting the 3,000-hit record. While Stan takes advantage of a second chance to do the right thing, Mr. 3000 strikes out in the wholesome entertainment category. Stan sets a record of sorts in his use of offensive language and crude humor. While this film has all indications that it will be a Disney-like feel-good movie, Mr. 3000 uses more than 65 crude and obscene words. Stan even spends time helping a Japanese ballplayer to learn how to curse. Stan boasts that he had sex with many young women and tells USPN sports reporter Mo Simm (Angela Bassett), of all the women that I have slept with, sex with you was always the best. The sexual content, vulgar dialog, excessive offensive language and brief rear nudity corrupts any worthwhile message that the film tries to impart, leaving Preview no choice but to cry foul!
