Sleepover MPAA Rating: PG Entertainment: +2 1/2 Content: +1 1/2

The teenage comedy Sleepover features four best friends Julie (Alexa Vega), Hannah (Mika Boorem), Farrah (Scout Taylor-Compton) and Yancy (Kallie Flynn Childress) who just finished junior high. They celebrate with an all-night slumber party that includes pizza, dress up, dancing to loud music, and lots of giggling. Stacie (Sara Paxton), a member of the in crowd at school, drops in on the party after a less-than-successful date with her first high-school guy. She challenges these ordinary girls to a scavenger hunt that could propel them into the popular crowd at high school. Julies college-age brother, Ren (Sam Huntington), covers for the girls as they sneak out of the house in order to improve their social status. The night-long caper provides some fun, adventure and heartwarming moments for preteen viewers who join in on this Sleepover.

At first glance, this appears to be a charming feel-good movie. Julies parents set boundaries for the girls sleepover, a refreshing portrayal of parents as conscientious, nurturing and committed to raising their children. It is troubling, however, that these good girls succumb to pressure to do things that go against how they have been raised: 1) a popular freshman-to-be goes on a date with a high-school senior, 2) the girls on the scavenger hunt vandalize an Old Navy store and outmaneuver a security officer, 3) the girls break into a boys house and steal a pair of his boxer shorts (Julie inadvertently watches the boy remove his boxers while she is hiding in his bathroom shower), 4) Julie gets an adult man to buy her an alcoholic drink named sex on the beach at a dance club where she has sneaked in. These questionable elements and the limited inappropriate language are not enough to earn Sleepover a negative rating from Preview, but many parents will not want their 9- to 15-year-olds contemplating these issues.
