Girl Next Door, The

MPAA Rating: R

Entertainment: +1

Content: -3 1/2

The Girl Next Door is promoted as a romantic comedy. Matthew Kidman (Emile Hirsch), student body president of his high school with aspirations of attending an Ivy League university, meets Danielle (Elisha Cuthbert), a teenage porn actress trying to make a new start in life. Matthew has a knack for befriending the down and out. His two best friends, Eli (Hugo Posh) and Klitz (Paul Dano), are portrayed as nerds who never do anything crazy but deep down desperately want to. Danielle pursues Matthew and manipulates and cajoles him to live life on the edge. His motives are pure, but his methods are suspect as he enters the underworld of the porn industry in order to save Danielle from returning to it. Matthew goes head to head with Danielles porn producer/pimp (Timothy Olyphant) throughout the movie and, while he doesnt win very often, he does eventually get the girl next door.

Hollywood has produced yet another sexually driven and morally irresponsible movie for teenagers with the message that sex and other adult activities are cool while morality makes you a loser. The Girl Next Door tells young people who apply themselves to succeed in life to instead do something crazy while they are still young. It communicates that sex is all that boys think about, and it glamorizes the porn industry with subtleties such as a teenage boy wearing a baseball cap with a porn companys name on it. This movie presents pornography as the solution to our sex-education problems. Teenage boys are allowed into strip clubs as well as a pornography convention. Teenagers on a high-school campus are harvested by a porn producer for the making of an underage porn movie. While there is a romantic theme between a teenage boy and girl, the sweetness and desired purity of the relationship are lost in the filth of corrupted values including a lot of sexual content and dialog, homosexuality, foul language and profanity.
