This dramatic crime thriller is about gangster life and the dark, dangerous world of drugs, prostitution and violence. Stylish gangster David (DMX), aka King, seeks redemption from this life of self-destruction and desires to make things right with the people whom he has wronged. As a former pimp and drug dealer, King has come to the terms with the fact that you reap what you sow. Moon (Clifton Powell), a prominent underworld crony, is not so forgiving and has King killed. Paul (David Arquette) finds King close to death, takes him to the hospital and ultimately is left with all of his earthly possessions, including an audiotape autobiography. Paul, a struggling writer, begins to chronicle Kings life. In the process, he is drawn into the dangers of Kings former lifestyle with his life being threatened as he gathers information and strives to write a book entitled Never Die Alone.
The films action is dark and sinister, its violence is bloody, and its morals sink to the depths of depravity. It shows the low value and respect given to human life in the criminal world. Particularly disturbing is the way that drugs are used to enslave women to their pimps. Juanita (Reagan Gomez-Preston) is smart and articulate, has her life in order, and is pursuing a college degree. The fact that she is not corrupted appeals to King, and he seeks to have her. He turns on the charm, entices her with drugs, uses her sexually, and then seeks to destroy her because she does not approve of his lifestyle. The sex scenes in this film are graphic and offensive as King and Moon both prey on the innocence of young women and use them for their own pleasures. The vile vocabulary predominately consists of variations of the f-word. This is one of many reasons that Never Die Alone is an unacceptable film.
