Jim Levinstein (Jason Biggs) of American Pie and American Pie 2 has graduated from college and is going to marry his longtime girlfriend Michelle Flaherty (Alyson Hannigan) in this teen comedy. From the proposal to the wedding vows, one comical disaster after another lets us know Jim is still the bumbling but well-meaning guy we first met as a teenager. He wants Michelle to have the perfect wedding and enlists his buddies, Paul Finch and Kevin Myers (Eddie Kaye Thomas and Thomas Ian Nicholas), to help. When socially impaired, mean-spirited Steve Stifler (Seann William Scott) hears about Jims engagement, he begins to take over, escalating an already out-of-control fiasco. The primary subject of this film, as in its two predecessors, is sex. Targeted for young adults, American Wedding will probably be one of this summers box office hits even though it is drenched in crude humor and filthy language.
Beginning with the opening credits, background music includes lyrics describing a couple having sex. Michelle, a self-proclaimed nymphomaniac, interrupts Jims awkward attempt to propose in an upscale restaurant by performing oral sex on him under the table. Thats the moment Jims father (Eugene Levy) appears and sits down with Jim, unaware of Michelle. Jims bare bottom is soon exposed as crowds watch with glee as he proposes half-dressed. Other scenes involve Stifler and two dogs in sexual acts, lewd dancing in a gay bar, bare-breasted prostitutes hired for a bachelor party, a wedding cake ruined by pubic hair, and hot-tub sex. Especially disgusting is Stifler swallowing dog fecal material, pretending it is chocolate. Add to the crude sexual humor at least 40 f-words, 25 s-words and 45 other slang words for genitals and sex acts, and you may wonder why American Wedding isnt rated NC-17. It certainly rates a high negative from Preview.
