Charlies Angels: Full Throttle

MPAA Rating: PG-13

Entertainment: +2 1/2

Detectives Natalie Cook (Cameron Diaz), Alex Munday (Lucy Liu) and Dylan Sanders (Drew Barrymore) are back in this action/comedy to reprise their roles from the 2000 film. Popular comedic actor Bernie Mac replaces Bill Murray as Bosley. Natalie, Alex and Dylan seek the individual who is holding two titanium rings that contain computer-encrypted records from the federal Witness Protection Program. Also seeking these rings are several Mob organizations and individuals who would like to make these witnesses pay. When witnesses start to turn up dead, the Angels are hired to use their disguises, martial arts and espionage expertise to find the rings and return them safely to the government. Demi Moore plays fallen angel Madison Lee, and Jaclyn Smith and Bruce Willis make cameo appearances.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle is sure to be popular among teens this summer. The action and storyline of the film are engaging. Those who enjoy action and adventure, however, may be disappointed with the blurry computer-enhanced scenes and unrealistic slow-motion action. The implausible outcomes of these action scenes add to the comedy. Charlies Angels gives young girls a less-than-desirable model of strong and heroic women. As in the popular TV series of the 70s, the Angels rely on skimpy beauty and sexuality to deceive and get what they want. The nasty language and sexual innuendoes spoken by the Angels and Bosley are presented in a way to make viewers laugh. This approach breaks down moral standards, making filthy language seem cool and acceptable. The film contains many morally objectionable scenes that should make you flee Charlies Angels at full throttle.
