When local TV news reporter Bruce Nolan (Jim Carrey) loses his job in this comedy, he becomes so angry with God that he mocks Him and dares God to smite him. His girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston) tries to get Bruce to see that everything happens for a reason. Bruce gets a cell phone call and is instructed to go to the Omni Presents building, where he meets the janitor (Morgan Freeman), who turns out to be God. God offers Bruce the chance take on Gods job and see if he can do it better than the Almighty. He accepts the offer and uses his divine power for his own gain; he gets a promotion to news anchor, has great sex with his girlfriend and gets back at a gang who beat him up. But bad things happen when Bruce cant handle Gods job. When he loses Grace, he falls on his knees in desperation and cries out to God. He goes to heaven after being killed by a vehicle, and God brings him back to life once Bruce decides to put Graces feelings and needs before his own.

Bruce Almighty is a funny and entertaining film, but it lacks taste and has several negative elements. The portrayal of God in the film is certainly not the God of the Bible and is at times blasphemous. Scripture is often misquoted and misused, and Jesus Christ is never presented as the answer to our problems. The film doesnt delve into issues of specific religious faiths. Needless to say, the films theology is not even close to what Christians believe. Other questionable elements include implied sex, a news team wanting to report a sex scandal in the mayors office, a monkey coming out of mans rear, a girl in bathroom making orgasmic sounds and motions, and farting sounds coming from Bruce (as God). Based on these elements, Preview cannot give this film anything other than a negative acceptability rating.
