Mighty Wind, A MPAA Rating: PG-13 Entertainment: +3 Content: -2

A Mighty Wind is a documentary-style comedy on 1960s folk music. After concert promoter Irving Steinbloom dies, his son Jonathan organizes a tribute concert featuring Steinblooms favorite, but now aging, folksingers: The Folksmen (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer), Mitch and Mickey (Eugene Levy and Catherine OHara), and The New Main Street Singers (Parker Posey, John Michael Higgins and Jane Lynch). The film is directed by Guest, known for other hits that poke fun at American culture: This is Spinal Tap (1984) and Waiting for Guffman (1996). Although this one wont blow away viewers like some of Guests earlier films, A Mighty Wind is still good for two reasons: The ensemble of comics have beautiful chemistry together, and they are funny, funny, funny. And for viewers in their 40s and up, the film will bring to mind those good old days of singing, The answer my friend is blowin in the wind. The answer is blowin in the wind.

As fun as this film was, it did have some negative elements. One of the singers spoke about how she was a porn actress before she became a singer. A good bit of the humor is based on sex and bodily fluids and functions: talk of bladder and fecal problems, a little machine that makes farting sounds for practical jokes, a sexual joke about a mans penis, and another about a wife. A man hears a couple having sex in the hotel room next door. And more serious, a married couple in one of the singing groups talks about how they worship a deity of color. And a transvestite plays a role in the film. For these reasons, primarily the sexual humor, and some bad language, Preview gives this film a negative acceptability rating.
