In this comedy, Brad Gluckman (Jamie Kennedy from the WB TV show The Jamie Kennedy Experiment) is a white boy who thinks, talks and acts like a black gangster rapper from the hood. The catch is that B-Rad lives in prestigious Malibu, California. He hangs out at the Malibrew Coffee Shop with his friends delivering rhymes about his tough life in the Bu. His father, Bill Gluckman (Ryan ONeal), is running for governor and is embarrassed by his sons behavior. He hires two Julliard-trained actors (Taye Diggs and Anthony Anderson) to act as gangsters, kidnap Brad in a car jacking, and scare the black out of him. The two refined actors may look the part but have no idea how to act like gangsters. The plan backfires when Brad discovers that the two actors are fakes. When some real gangsters show up, he thinks its all part of the act.
This film offers a slight twist from other films of this genre and thankfully does not glamorize drugs and violence as so many others do. Jamie Kennedy is funny at first, but his silly imitation of a black boy grows tiresome. Some may find the racial humor offensive; the movie pokes fun at rich whites as well as poor blacks. It portrays the more sophisticated and articulate Julliard actors as being somewhat feminine. The movie gives a weak positive message of the importance of a father being there for his children, but it is lost in the silliness of the film. There is a short, violent shootout with hundreds of bullets, but nobody appears to get shot. Although Malibus Most Wanted is fun in spots, Preview cannot recommend it due to lewd humor, obscenities and some sexual content.
