Adapted from Stephen Kings best-selling novel, this horror thriller is about four friends who as children bonded emotionally and telepathically over their act of kindness toward a human dreamcatcher named Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg). Twenty years later, they remain close, but each friend has his own issues. Henry (Thomas Jane) is considering suicide, Beav (Jason Lee) is troubled by love, Jonesy (Damian Lewis) has strange premonitions, and Pete (Timothy Olyphant) drinks too much. The friends go on their annual hunting trip in the woods of Maine and wind up at their favorite cabin. Strange things begin to happen when an old man stumbles into their camp. The friends soon find themselves face to face with a horrifying alien and a crazy army man (Morgan Freeman) bent on destroying it. The only way they can save themselves and the world from the alien is to find their friend, the Dreamcatcher.
While the film is somewhat entertaining, there are two reasons not to see it: the language and the violence. The film opens with Henry considering suicide with a gun. While staying in a cabin, the friends talk turns to their penises. In a flashback scene, one of the friends as a child is bullied and forced to eat dog dung. When the aliens take over a persons body, they cause the person to belch and have a lot of flatulence, which evoked laughs in the audience. A mans rear is shown covered with blood. The bloodiest parts of the movie are when the giant eel-like alien attacks humans, which is a big part of the movie and occurs frequently. There are many scary and gory scenes. With all of the violence and rough, sexual language, Preview cannot recommend Dreamcatcher.
