In this romantic comedy, Paul (Jason Lee) is a young businessman engaged to Karen (Selma Blair) and employed to her wealthy father (James Brolin). The morning after his bachelor party, Paul wakes up to find the attractive and naked Becky (Julia Stiles), who happens to be Karens cousin, next to him in bed. In an attempt to cover up this mysterious meeting, Paul lies to Karen, which spawns a multitude of exaggerations, fabrications, deceptions and misunderstandings. For the six days preceding the wedding, Paul goes through a series of mishaps, disappointments and wild adventures, including run-ins with snobby in-laws and psycho exboyfriends, among other surprises. Through a chain of hilarious events, Paul must make one of the biggest decisions of his life. The turn of events in his life leads to a startling and comical end. This comedy brought bursts of laughter from viewers of all ages.

The shocking ending of Pauls decision is a commendable one. While men are often portrayed as hunters without hearts, preying upon unsuspecting women, Paul has a good heart and wants to make the right decision. He renounces doing the wrong thing and does not succumb to the pressure to live like a stereotypical guy. The film does make a statement about the benefits of telling the truth over deception; Paul makes a moral decision based on the truth while facing his fears. However, the film contains several obscenities and several uses of profanity in a setting that did not require this language. A Guy Thing portrays men as sexual predators, presents the use of marijuana as not so bad and uses some sexual innuendo. These detractions, as well as some nudity and sexually suggestive dialogue earn the film a negative rating from Preview
