In this sequel comedy, Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro team up again. While in prison in Sing Sing, New York mob boss Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) fluctuates from a nearly catatonic state to singing Westside Story songs. His life is also being threatened by a rival mob family. His former psychotherapist, Dr. Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal), arrives to examine Vitti and determine if hes faking his condition in an attempt to escape. Sobel is not as interested in helping Vitti as in the original film because this time he has his own problems. Hes dealing with his fathers recent death, and his wife Laura (Lisa Kudrow) will flip if she finds out that he is treating the mobster again. Vitti is released from prison on the condition that Sobel maintains custody of him. Sobel aims to help Vitti with his mental state so that he can get a legitimate job outside of the mob, but Sobels patience is tested when Vitti continues to hang around his mob friends, like Lou the Wrench.

This film is even cruder than the original, Analyze This (1999), which amidst the crude language had an innocent feel as good-hearted Sobel positively influenced notorious mobster Vitti. The sequel, however, adds more vulgarity, and much of the humor is cruel and demeaning and draws little laughter from viewers. Sobel is not the sympathetic character that he was in the original. The plot of Analyze That is entertaining but is broken up by the bad language; Vitti uses the f word freely with the word being dropped more than 75 times in this film. Crime and promiscuity are treated comically. Despite its entertainment value, Analyze That receives a negative rating because of the sexual content, violence and continuous bad language.
