Major League 3: Back To The Minors

MPAA Rating: PG-13

Is this sequel just another predicable addition to the MAJOR LEAGUE comedy series? Yeah. But is it a fun, feel good movie? Yeah! And is it trashed up with the usual Hollywood foul language? Unfortunately, yes. This time around, the bumbling baseball team who's down on its luck is a minor league team in South Carolina called THE BUZZ. It has the usual misfit players, including a pitcher who can only throw fast balls, a catcher who's lost his throwing control and an outfielder who's so fat he can't catch up with fly balls. But the team owner(Corbin Bernsen) brings in a likeable, veteran coach, Gus Cantrell(Scott Bakula), who slowly but surely shapes the team into a formidable competitor. In fact, they get to play the Minnesota Twins in a big major league game and almost win. But they get a second chance later on which, of course, provides a rousing, finale to the film. Almost everyone is likely to leave the theater after seeing this one with a smile on their face.

Gus is a sincere, decent coach who really likes his team members and tries hard to help them reach their potential. He contrasts strongly with the arrogant, abusive coach of the Minnesota Twins (Ted McGinley). However, he's living with his girlfriend(Jensen Daggett) and one scene shows them in a swanky hotel room in their underwear implying that sex has occurred. This fun film, unhappily, is seriously marred with an abundance of mild and moderate crude words, along with 11 s words and 5 other obscenities and 6 regular profanities. But there's no sex or nudity in the film and no crude or sexually suggestive humor. One of the players practices Yoga and another (Dennis Haysbert) voodoo, but all this is portrayed in a comical style. Too bad this feel good movie has to suffer from foul language which is so prevalent in today's films.
