Disneys original feature re-introduced the legend of Edgar Rice Burroughs ape-man to a new generation and, like many popular Disney products, spawned a television series based on the characters. This new direct-to-video story finds Jane, voiced by Olivia DAbo, wanting to celebrate her first anniversary with Tarzan. But as she discusses ideas with friends Tantor the elephant and Terk the gorilla, they remind her of past incidents that might upset Tarzan. When she suggests a party, the memory of a picnic with three of Janes friends from England includes a dangerous encounter with panthers. Offering the idea of a diamond ring reminds them of a perilous trip inside a volcano, and dancing in the moonlight brings memories of jealousy over Janes friend from the past whos also a daring double agent. As Jane returns to their treehouse home, disappointed at not understanding her husbands jungle world, Tarzan surprises her with how well he understands her world. Basically wrapping three episodes of the televised series together with the anniversary theme, TARZAN AND JANE will especially entertain young viewers.

Although battles with panthers and crocodiles being thrown around seem excessive, no one is harmed in the end. Janes female friends make some slightly suggestive comments as they admire Tarzans appearance and the adventure dictates shedding their Victorian skirts for more practical travel in bloomers. One comical reference to flatulence is made along with a mild slang term for posterior. But lessons are more prevalent, like the value of outward appearance being overrated by society. With virtually no objectionable material, TARZAN AND JANE can be a family time treat.
