Dennis the Menace Strikes Again

MPAA Rating: G

Entertainment: +2

Content: +1

Lock the windows and barricade the doors because he's definitely back. That one-boy wrecking crew, Dennis the Menace, returns for more mischief and mayhem. Justin Cooper is Dennis, while comedy legend Don Rickles is his long-suffering neighbor, Mr. Wilson. But this time around, Dennis isn't the only one driving Mr. Wilson crazy. Mr. Johnson, Dennis' grandpa (George Kennedy), has come for an extended visit and, together with Dennis, the two drive Mr. Wilson to his breaking point. As expected, Mr. Wilson gets cakes, car oil, bugs and a whole host of other things squirted, thrown and dropped on top of his head. When he has finally had more than he can take, he puts his house up for sale. But before he can sell he must have his home inspected. Two conmen (Carrot Top and Brian Doyle-Murray) posing as inspectors try to swindle Mr. Wilson out of his money. It is then up to Dennis to save the day.

DENNIS THE MENACE STRIKES AGAIN is fairly entertaining and will likely delight young viewers as well as prompt some chuckles from parents. However, it is disappointing to note that one mild crude word is used in this G-rated film. In addition, in what could be considered a suggestive scene, Dennis' frog escapes into Mr. Wilson's bath and comes up between his legs to spit water at him, but no nudity is shown. Although most children will not pick up on the innuendo, Dennis' friends discuss another friend, Margaret, using a slang term for a part of her female anatomy. One of the few scenes of mild violence include Mr. Wilson falling out of a window and down some stairs. However, he easily recovers. It is a shame Hollywood has to slip some questionable material into this G-rated film on video. Even so, it seems reasonably acceptable for its intended audience of people ages 5 and older.
