Attractive Lucy Owen (Kate Hudson) has had boyfriends and affairs, but none that ignited her passion and desire for commitment. But when she meets Adam (Stuart Townsend), he seems to fulfill her dreams. In fact, the whole family seems to fall in love with Adam. Lucys sister Laura (Frances OConnor), a student of Victorian womens poetry, discovers romantic lusts with Adam shes only read about. And married sister Alice (Charlotte Bradley) revels in Adams flattery and attention which her boring husband appears to have neglected. Even her brother David (Alan Maher) discovers something to like in Adam. But will this family affair be a romantic disaster or can Adam keep his relations with the sisters separate? This Irish romantic comedy takes a unique approach to family relationships but, as a foreign film, even Oscar nominee Hudson may draw limited crowds.
Unlike the Garden of Eden, this Adam provides temptation for everyone he meets. And the film implies that immorality improves each character's life. Lucy finds someone for a committed relationship, scholarly Laura finds passion outside of books, and Alice discovers renewed sexual self-worth in Adam's attention. Adam even helps David jump-start a sexual relation with his girlfriend. Graphic sexual encounters, one with brief nudity, and several without nudity are featured. Alice and Adam even commit adultery minutes before he marries Lucy. Along with the explicit sexual content, the strong Irish accents fill the dialogue with numerous obscenities and profanity. ABOUT ADAM is about immorality and pornographic acts.
