Likable Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs) and his two best friends, Wayne (Steve Zahn) and sloppy, crude J.D. (Jack Black ) have their own musical group, "Diamonds in the Rough," reflecting their obsession with Neil Diamond. One night, in a bar, Darren meets Judith (Amanda Peet), a beautiful psychologist with a really mean streak. She soon controls mild-mannered Darren, forbidding him to see J.D. and Wayne. The two outcasts then devise an outrageous plan to break up the mismatched lovers. Neil Diamond plays himself in a few scenes, and his music is the only unpolluted fleck in this cesspool of a movie. A mean-spirited comedy targeted at immature teenagers who giggle at crude bathroom humor, SAVING SILVERMAN may earn respectable box office returns opening weekend, but, hopefully, will quickly fade into oblivion.

The three guys idolize a former highschool football coach (R. Lee Ermey) convicted of killing a referee during a game. From jail, the coach counsels Wayne and J.D. on how to kill Judith. But Judith outsmarts and overpowers them with karate kicks before seducing Wayne. Many vicious fights, kicks to stomach and groin, crashes through glass windows and doors and electrical shocks never stop. Disgusting bathroom humor includes the coach squatting in Wayne's front yard when told there's no bathroom in the house. J.D. describes in crude terms going to his high school prom with a tuxedo painted on his nude body. And Waynes contorted naked body is shown from the side as he practices yoga in the nude. Judith tells Darren she doesn't believe in premarital sex, then performs an unconventional sex act. Shes often shown in blouses open to the waist that barely cover her breasts. When her groom stops the wedding, Judith turns to best man Wayne, throws him on the ground, hitting and kicking him, until the two collapse into an animal-like groping session in the aisle. Added to numerous crude sexual comments are 18 obscenities and 13 profanities. SAVING SILVERMAN can't be salvaged.
