Robert Vince, producer of the very successful AIR BUD films, brings families another comedy about an amazing animal capable of great sports feats. This time, a very amusing chimp, named Jack, escapes from a university research facility in California and ends up in Nelson, Canada. Hes taken in by a young deaf girl, Tara (Jamie Smith), and her family, including her teenage brother, Steven (Kevin Zegers). The antics of Jack are good for lots of laughs, including scaring the ladies at a meeting at Taras home. But all thats rather minor after Jack learns to play hockey on Stevens local high school team and turns out to be a star player. In fact, he manages to get the team to the national high school championship game. But Jack is also pursued by university officials, who want the valuable research animal back. A chimp becoming a star hockey player somewhat stretches the imagination, and, of course, some of the slapstick humor is corny. But Jacks comical facial expressions and antics keep the audience laughing.

Producer/Director Vince of Keystone Family Pictures, is dedicated to making family appropriate films and he certainly fulfills that promise in this wholesome comedy. In fact, this PG-rated film comes close to being eligible for a G rating. But it does have a couple of crude words, and a slightly suggestive scene in which high school hockey players admire a young woman in a short skirt. And, as would be expected, the hockey games get rough and include fights between the players. Some of the players, as well as a stadium organ player, are knocked out by flying hockey pucks. Steven and Tara have a loving family environment and most of the characters in the film are likable, decent folks. Children as young as 4 years of age will enjoy Jacks adventures and the films appropriate for all ages. So parents, take advantage of this fun family film.
