Cyberworld [3D IMAX]

MPAA Rating: G

Entertainment: +2

Content: +3 1/2

In a dazzling and incredible three-dimensional display, IMAX introduces the first large-format, animated film that seems to project beyond the screen. Using newly developed computer technology called SANDDE (Stereoscopic Animation Drawing Device), the show takes viewers through the computer circuitry into the digital world of Galleria Animatica, a futuristic museum. The hostess, Phig (voiced by Jenna Elfman), introduces the wonders of various 3D animated exhibits. But all is not perfect as a trio of bugs is literally eating the computer code for the programs, including Phig. As Phig hunts the bugs in the system, viewers also get treated to a new look at the bar scene from ANTZ, and an insect cartoon called JOE FLY & SANCHEZ. Another scene shows a visit by Homer Simpson into a three-dimensional world where he creates a black hole. But in the cyberwold, the black hole begins to suck everything into its endless vortex. Only tech support can overcome the programming breakdown, but will they answer Phigs call in time? Audiences will marvel at the truly amazing images as they seem to pass, literally, by their eyes.

Although Phigs attitude seems to be a little rough around the edges, the only questionable language comes from the ANTZ segment at the insect dance club. Reference is made to drinking fluid from aphids and a couple of crude terms are used. Typical of the SIMPSONS cartoon, Homer Simpson crudely scratches his behind and belches. Phig has a laser type gun she fires at the computer bugs but never hits them. Younger viewers may be disturbed by some scary underwater creatures with sharp teeth, particularly when the teeth come out of the screen toward the audience. But children and adults alike will enjoy the colorful, fantastic scenes in CYBERWORLD 3D that seem almost touchable.
