While modern science has discovered vast amounts of information about the human brain, the depths of the human mind have yet to be explored. However, in this fantasy thriller, scientists can link or transport one human mind into another for psychiatrists to study the minds of those with serious mental disorders. Dr. Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) begins this highly experimental procedure, hoping to waken a comatose child. But when serial killer Carl Stargher (Vincent DOnofrio) is discovered in a similar state, FBI agent Peter Novack (Vince Vaughn) asks Dr. Deane to delve into Starghers mind. But theres only a limited time before Starghers most recent kidnap victim dies in an automated torture chamber. Dr. Deane needs to discover the location of the victim in time to save her life, not an easy task in the bizarre and disturbing mind of Stargher. Artistically shot and with an incredible music score, THE CELL is a treat for fans of cinematic beauty. However, the dark subject matter, a proliferation of sickening images and some awkward dialogue, may draw limited crowds.

Dr. Deane has a soft spot for troubled children and shows that she would risk her life for that of a child without a moments thought. But in the mind of Stargher, she deals with much more than an endangered child and is constantly exposed to his strange world of disgusting images and characters. In his mind, Starghers abusive childhood, as well as the kingdom he sets up is revealed. Because of an obsession with dolls, many characters in Starghers mind look like living dolls, some dressed and some not. Some of his dead victims also show female breast nudity. Most disturbing though are the violent and bloody acts, including one scene where Stargher uses a mans intestines on a string instrument. Obscenities and profanity flow freely and along with extremely graphic violence, some nudity, and general disturbing content should keep most locked out of THE CELL.
