Trixie Zurbo (Emily Watson) never quite mastered the English language. In referring to a multi-talented man, she calls him a Jekyll of all trades. She also makes garbled comments like the less you bet, the more you lose when you win. But, while her oral English skills may be limited, Trixie dreams of being a detective and working her very own case. So while on the job watching for pickpockets in a small town casino, Trixie stumbles on some shady characters led by crafty State Senator Drummond Avery (Nick Nolte). With the assistance of Dex Lang (Dermot Mulroney), she gets on the trail of these criminals after a woman mysteriously turns up dead. An off-the-wall comedy, TRIXIE tries to turn into a suspense thriller halfway through. However, the turn isnt smooth, although Watson is definitely endearing as the verbally challenged detective.

Trixies premier asset is her unrelenting and persevering personality. Even when things look their bleakest, shes unwilling to give up. Her apparent innocence to things of the world is also an endearing quality that makes the audience root for her character. During her investigation though, she happens upon Dex who constantly tries to get her into bed. It almost works once as he gets her blouse off, but before anything further happens, they are interrupted. At one point, they stumble upon an incriminating video of two people having sex, although no nudity is shown. Other sexual dialogue and actions litter the film, including a woman with her hand under a table stimulating a man and brief frontal nudity as men are forced to undress. Prevalent crude and vulgar language includes 14 obscenities and numerous strong profanities. All in all, explicit sexual content and garbage vocabulary make TRIXIE a poor choice.
