A tedious plot, bad acting and a mediocre script combine to bring INTERSECTION to the screen. The story, told in flashbacks, concerns Vincent Eastman (Richard Gere), a wealthy architect who is having a hard time deciding between his mistress and his wife and child. Sally Eastman (Sharon Stone), his wife, has social connections that have gained most of their accounts. For passion, Vincent turns to Olivia (Lolita Davidovich), a writer for a local magazine. Sally suspects an affair but since she and Vincent are separated, she cannot confirm this. Things come to a head when a drunk Olivia shows up at an architectural party and meets Sally. Vincent must then make an agonizing choice; stability or passion. Richard Gere should have never taken a spin in this movie, which is another disappointing effort to add to his list.
Apparently, Hollywood feels the slow-moving plot just has to be spiced up with sexual intercourse, shown fully once and implied several other times. Other spices include breast nudity, obscured twice and fully frontal on another occasion, and eight obscenities which supposedly add emotional depth to the dialogue! Finally, the entire movie is wrapped up in some New Age philosophy where the gods of the Eskimos are held up as mystically powerful. While INTERSECTION does not go to extremes in objectionable material, it could have been left out or altered without changing the substance of the movie. Sadly, though, the nudity, sexual situations, foul language, and New Age overtones further damage an already battered film. If you're driving to a movie, stay away from this INTERSECTION.
