Recently released on video, THE FOX AND THE HOUND is a Disney feature length cartoon. The Fox, Tod (voice by Mickey Rooney), is orphaned when his mother is killed by hunters. He is befriended by Big Mama (Pearl Bailey), a wise owl, and the Widow Tweed (Jeanette Nolan). Tod becomes great friends with a hunter's new hound puppy, Copper (Kurt Russell) that lives nearby. When winter approaches, the hunter takes Copper off to be trained as a hunting dog. Copper returns the following spring, but Tod and Copper's friendship cannot continue, as Copper must track down animals like Tod. When a tragic accident is blamed on Tod, his life becomes threatened. The Widow Tweed takes him to a game preserve, but even there he faces danger. Children will love the suspense, adventure and excitement of THE FOX AND THE HOUND.
This is a heartwarming story of unconditional friendship crossing boundaries and conquering obstacles. One caution: The climactic scene of an attacking bear is so well drawn and executed that it may frighten younger children. Overall, this is a great video to rent, make some popcorn, and enjoy as a family.
