In this odd, but rather clever British comedy, Eddy (Nick Moran) and his three friends pool their money together so that Eddy can play in the biggest card game in the city. He ends up losing to Hatchet Harry (P.H. Moriarty) and owing him 500,000 pounds, all because Harry cheated. But Eddy only has one week to pay back the money, so he and his friends set a plan in motion to steal it from Eddys neighbor. In the process, they end up buying two guns to use in the robbery that actually have been stolen for Harry, the man they are supposed to pay the money to. But, what none of these guys realize is that Eddys dad, JD (Sting), can hand over his bar to Harry to cancel the debt. As Eddy makes the attempt to steal the money, it leads to a comical turn of events with a lot of fun and confusion. This film is inventive, funny, and very well written. It should perform moderately well at the box office in spite of its lack of advertising and promotion.
From the beginning, this movie has many sexual overtones. One of the main characters owns a sex shop, and many of the scenes take place there. In these scenes, sex toys are often seen lying around on tables. Another scene includes a female stripper with female breast and rear nudity displayed. Some drawings of nude women are shown on one of the walls of the sex shop, and a brief picture of female breast nudity is shown on a video cover. In addition to the sex and nudity, violence occurs frequently, but it is graphic only twice in the film, with two people being shot. The violence does become exploitive though, even though it is often not seen on camera. Foul language also abounds, with 122 f-words and 20 regular profanities. Numerous references to male and female genitals occur throughout the film. The amount of sex, nudity, language, and the exploitive violence, make LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARELLS and R rated film to definitely avoid.
