This film series, like its antagonist Michael Meyers, sadly just won't die. In this installment, we find out that Druid priests were responsible for making Michael Meyers a homicidal maniac, the embodiment of evil, unstoppable and un-killable. And this Halloween, Michael's out to kill the remainder of his family, except for his two cousins, a young boy and an infant, whom the Druids want to turn into killing machines as well. Out of retirement and to the rescue comes Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance), the psychiatrist who studied Michael as he grew up in an asylum. The plot line consists of Michael finding graphic, bloody, disturbing ways to kill people while Dr. Loomis wanders around wild-eyed a step behind. The ending is ambiguous, of course, as an equally mindless sequel has to have a place to start.
HALLOWEEN 6 is a formula slasher film, complete with copious amounts of graphic, bloody violence. An abusive father explodes while being electrocuted. Other horror scenes include impalements and stabbings. This film's sole purpose is to entertain through violence, feeding on the attraction some have to horror. Next year, its sequel will probably be even more disgusting. Teen sex with accompanying breast nudity and a voyeuristic hero who observes a young woman undressing will appeal to an audience expecting sexually suggestive content. While offensive language is not as prevalent in HALLOWEEN 6 as in many films of this genre, its regular profanities, obscenities and crudities add to this film's overall repugnant content. The continuing financial success of these slasher films is a sad commentary on the state of our society and the willingness of Hollywood to do anything for the almighty dollar.
