Just when you think films can't get any worse, a film like MALLRATS comes along. At the outset, Brandi (Clair Forllani) is on a rooftop with her telescope watching Governor Dalton (Elizabeth Ashley) present an honorarium to her TV programmer dad, Jared Svenning (Michael Rooker). When her boyfriend T.S. (Jeremy London) climbs on the roof to see her, a secret service agent mistakes him for an assassin. The ceremony is ruined and Brandi's romance is squelched by an irate dad. T.S. and his friend Brodie head for the mall where they meet some off-the-wall teens. One is writing a book on sex and two are teaming up to wreck Brandi's dad's TV program. MALLRATS' entertainment value is zero and will disgust the viewer with its coarse jokes and behavior.

A preoccupation with sex runs through MALLRATS. Brodie's first appearance is in his bedroom with his girlfriend who is putting on her clothes and climbing out the window. Brandi and T.S. talk about taking a trip together, and her father tells T.S. to quit sleeping with his little girl. Brodie has sex with his girlfriend in an elevator and 15-year-old Tricia has a publisher for the sex book she is researching. Particularly offensive is a prolonged scene of Brodie and T.S. visiting a topless fortune teller in the mall. The film has plenty of slapstick violence as well. Brodie mercilessly beats a guy up, and two of the boys are involved in several fracases. Regular profanities and a great number of obscenities and crudities add to the film's disgusting content. A film targeted for teenagers, MALLRATS is an insult to their intelligence and belongs in the gutter with the other rats.
