Mysteries of Egypt (IMAX)

MPAA Rating: G

Entertainment: +2 1/2

Content: +4

With actor Omar Sharif narrating and IMAX cameras rolling, viewers are taken on a fascinating armchair journey through the mysterious land of the beautiful Nile River. The film begins with flashbacks of archeologists in 1922 discovering the tomb of young King Tut, who died over 3,000 years ago. The sophistication of the king's perfectly preserved remains, as well as the manual construction of the hidden tomb and Egypt's giant pyramids make present-day accomplishments pale by comparison. Following carefully configured mathematical designs and sophisticated engineering methods, Egyptian labor laid each huge stone of every pyramid by hand. Built as tombs for Egyptian kings, who were buried with priceless gold, jewels and artifacts, the pyramids were prime targets for thieves. However, young King Tut was entombed underground in one of the few grave sites not found by robbers. Children old enough to have studied geography and world history, as well as adults, will find MYSTERIES OF EGYPT informative and entertaining.

This documentary is currently being screened with JOURNEY OF MAN in IMAX theaters, and the two are exact opposites. MYSTERIES OF EGYPT deals with historical facts, while JOURNEY is an abstract, metaphorical interpretation of human development. Egypt's ancient history reveals amazing proof of man's capabilities that make the theory of evolution difficult to believe. The Egyptians' ingenuity in building and maintaining a sophisticated civilization and the beautifully designed works of art uncovered after thousands of years boggle the mind. No foul language, violence or sexual material clutters this film, and the huge screen IMAX format really draws audiences into the pictures. Its encouraging to see filmmakers using modern technology in a wholesome, entertaining and educational format for all ages. Support your local IMAX theater, and if your city doesn't have one near, encourage them to get one. They are truly treasures to nourish the mind
