FILM SYNOPSIS: CIA computer whiz Susan (McCarthy) follows every move Agent Fine (Law) makes from the basement of the CIA basement, saving his life in dangerous situations, but he gets all the credit. In the midst of a top secret mission the death of Agent Fine requires an immediate replacement. CIA Deputy Director (Janney) sends an eager Susan to carry out the mission. This overlooked technician takes on the deadly arms dealer threatening global destruction in a style that even James Bond couldn’t match. From taking control of a private jet in midflight, to hanging from a helicopter over the ocean, Susan rules the screen.

PREVIEW REVIEW: The strong female cast dominates Spy. Miranda Hart plays Susan, coworker and Susan’s best friend. She shares the same poor treatment from her male counterparts and is the only one who recognizes Susan’s capability. Rose Byrne plays Raina, a key player in the European arms war. The underlying theme reminds us that in today’s world, it is not nice to underestimate women. Susan jumps from the basement of the CIA headquarters into the sophisticated, dangerous international spy world. Instead of a sexy bombshell she is a frumpy, overweight woman who shocks us all as we watch her transformed into Superwoman. The slapstick humor is raunchy and endless, and the violence is frequent, severe and bloody. Along with that, strong and frequent obscenities, profanities and male nudity will offend many. Why is that funny? Audiences’ laughter drowns out much of the dialogue, which is probably a good thing.
